He’s all business…until he’s all hers

Brody Flynn waited years to get his revenge on Douglass Shipping for his parents’ accidental deaths. Now the company is fumbling, profits are down, and it’s the perfect time for a hostile takeover. Vengeance. But the former CEO’s daughter Kate Douglass has other plans…

Kate’s been waiting for her chance to take on a real role at Douglass and prove to her family that she’s not the fragile piece of glass they all think she is. There’s no way she’ll give up without a fight. All she has to do is convince the gorgeous new CEO to hire her…and not fall for him.

But Brody was never supposed to feel attracted to the daughter of his enemy. He was never supposed to want her as hard as he does. And the only thing stronger than his hunger for revenge is his hunger for her…

review

It always excites me to read a new-to-me author. You’ll never really know what to expect. I started the book thinking of a very typical rich-guy falls inlove with a girl (heiress) story. But Jackie Braun surprised me with Revenge Best Served Hot .

Strong females leads are something I enjoy in a book, and I love Kate Douglass. Victim of the daughter of the owner stereotype, she does everything to prove her worth. Kate is loyal and selfless and is concerned with keeping the company intact, and maybe eventually buying it. I’m very glad she’s not an heiress in distress and can infact hold her own. I love her struggles and admire her courage, specially when she asked Brody for a job.

Brody too, is a great male lead. I love men in suits. But more than that, I loved his background story. Unlike Kate, who we seem to able to read like a book, Brody shrouds most of his real reasons. While revenge was on the surface for his reason to buying out Douglass Shipping, we find his intentions with the proceeds of the sale more golden hearted. Brody is fair and smart. He knows his priorities and sees Kate beyond what other see in her.

This book was more than what I expected and I was surprised that I really enjoyed reading it. Jackie Braun’s writing was engaging and exciting, with the build-up going at a steady pace. And just when you think you know what was going to happen, Braun gives you a nice little plot twist. I loved Brody, Kate and all their supporting characters. Her characters have depth and heart and opening themselves to each other was very beautiful to watch. The gradual getting know phase of the two sort of enemies and the parallelism of their histories give them a better connection with each other. Instead of getting on each other’s nerves (which was something I was expecting), they worked around their situation and end up becoming a couple.

Revenge Best Served Hot is a great book. It is about seeing beyond stereotypes and pre-conceived notions and about knowing your priorities. Hostile takeovers happen not only in the corporate world, but also in the heart, which is the worst kind of takeover. It is done quietly, slowly and once complete, is embraced fully.
