Like the first two books in the series, The Truest of Words is a romantic tale that blends witty banter with passion and drama
The Truest of Words is the third and last of Georgina Guthrie’s The Words Series. The first two books introduced me to Aubrey and Daniel. Their meeting, and coming to terms with their new found (if secret) feelings for each other. In the third book, the couple now take baby steps to make their relationship public, amidst the bumps they encounter along the way.
If there is one thing I love about Guthrie’s books, it is the characters. The Truest of Words brings everybody back and giving them all new stories to develop them further. She also throws in other characters that add that extra spice.
But hands down, Aubrey is my favourite. I love how Guthrie delves more into her background, giving her conflict, making her more realistic, and easy to relate to. Daniel may be cute, but it is Aubrey who stands out for me. Her intelligence, strength and personality amazes me so much. With it, she becomes the anchor that holds her sailor in his times of turbulence.
Daniel, on the other hand, begins to try to get over all the negative things that happened to him the previous years, wanting to find himself again. In the third book, he is at his best. He changes from anxious and unsure to brave and confident in their relationship. I love the humor and intense passion he shares with Aubrey. To me, he is the absolute epitome of playful and sexy. And between the two of them, I’ve always felt that he had the most unfortunate luck. So I am truly glad of how things turned out for him.
Of course, the other characters are there, with Mat, Julie and the Grant Family. They bring out so much of our couple’s characters with their own personalities, you can’t help but love them too. Watch out for Patty! She throws around those words of wisdom like its nobody’s business.
Guthrie’s writing was with the witty dialogue I would expect only from her. The love scenes were great, without being forced. The conflicts made me worry for them both and the plot twists surprised me. I was never a fan of Shakespeare, but Guthrie has given me a new perspective about him. All through out the series, she demonstrated a beautiful understanding of the bard’s works and incorporated his words seamlessly in to the story. Truly, Shakespeare’s words are universal. I hope other non Shakespeare fans would leave the book with a new found appreciation of him as I have.
In the end, I’d like to thank Georgina Guthrie for writing one of my most favourite series of all time, including to two of the most wonderful characters I have ever come across with. It was well worth every stumble and every tear. The Truest of Words is a beautiful ending to Aubrey and Daniel’s story. It a journey from doubt, confusion and secrecy to understanding and acceptance. It is proof that love is at its best when it is expressed in words, showed by deeds and felt truest in the heart.

GG is often happiest when reading and writing, but she’s just as likely to be found hanging out with friends and family, almost certainly with a glass of red wine in one hand a bag of cheese and onion crisps in the other.
